LM220   Install Sleeve (Dry, w/o Flange) 1st Sleeve, use LM222 for each add’l sleeve. Sleeves (sold separately) are used to repair badly worn or cracked cylinders. Includes boring the block to accept dry, non-flange style sleeve. Chilled Sleeve is pressed into the block for a secure shrink fit. Some sleeves only require honing to finish, while others require boring & honing to fit the pistons (see above for add’l pricing to  hone, or bore & hone). LM268   VW – Vat Clean & Align Bore Case. 12-13-15-1600 Cases. Discount package price for vat cleaning the case and align boring its main bearing bores, to accept oversized bearings (sold separately). Includes machining the thrust surfaces as needed. $190

LM270   VW – Heat Treat / Stress Relieve Case. Often a VW case will warp when the engine is over heated. The center main bearing supports will not mate together; causing a loss of oil pressure. In 1963, we pioneered a Heat Treat process used to stress relieve & re-straighten a warped case.  $150   Note: there is a possibility a case is too stressed/warped to be straightened. There is no way to fore tell. If heat treat is not successful, we will not charge for the attempt. Also heat treated cases require LM268, LM 272, and possibly LM274.

LM272   VW – Align Ream Cam Bearing Bores. This trues out-of-round and misaligned cam bores in 13-15-1600 VW cases. $75

LM274   VW – Install Case Saver Thread Inserts. The threaded head stud holes in the case are drilled & tapped for steel inserts. Includes 16 case-saver inserts, and checking cyl spigot fit. $150

LM276   VW – Machine Case for Big Bore Jugs. Includes R&R head studs & spot facing gasket deck if needed. Please supply cylinder for fitting. $175

LM280   VW – Weld Super-Plate in Case. To strengthen the case near the #3 cyl, and reduce the risk of cracking, especially when big bore cyls are installed, a thick magnesium alloy plate is TIG welded in place. Case must be bare and clean. Includes the cost of the mag-alloy plate. $150

LM282   VW – Drill and Tap Case for Full-Flow Oil Passages. Case must be bare and clean. Fittings are sold separately. $125

LM284   VW – Machine Case for Pulley Sand Seal. Seal sold separately. Includes machining pulley for seal, is needed, $150

LM286   VW – Chamfer Lifter Bores. Often when a hi-performance cam or lifters are used, the case’s lifter bores must be chamfered for more clearance. $90

LM088  Disassemble Cylinder Head. Inspect, mic, and visually evaluate components such as head casting, valve seats, valves, guides, springs, cams, cam followers, lifters, rockers arms (as equipped) for the purpose of estimating the head for rebuilding. $76

LM090  Vat Clean Cylinder Head. Process the head thru a hot detergent vat/jet washer to remove most dirt, grease, oil, & carbon. (Note: some carbon, oil, grease, and stains may remain. We offer bead blasting at an add’l cost.)  Vat cleaning per head, $35

LM092  Leak Test Valves. Vacuum is applied to each intake and exhaust port of the head, to test the sealing of the valves on their seats.  Per head, $20

LM094  Pressure Test Cyl Head. A machine seals and pressurizes the head’s cooling jacket with air while either submerged or sprayed with liquid to reveal leaks or cracks in the coolant jacket.  $45

LM096  PT HT PT Straighten Cyl Head. Process straightens cylinder head that has been severely over-heated; that would otherwise be scrapped due to excess milling. Straightening OHC  / DOHC head also eliminates or reduces the extra expense of align boring warped cam bores; and prevents cam timing / tuning DTC errors. The head is pressure tested prior to heat treating & being stress relieved. After heat treating, the head is pressure tested again to test for residual cracks. $170

LM100  Cut Valve/Seat; Most 1 or 2 Cyl Heads. Commonly referred to as a valve job, this consists of: Removing carbon from valves; inspect springs and valves; Reface valves and machine valve seats with proper multi-angle profile. Vacuum test sealing of each valve on its seat. Pressure test springs; install stem seals as req’d (seals sold separately). Re-assemble valves and springs in the head; and do a final quality control vacuum test. $170 per head

LM102  Cut Valve/Seat; OHV Head w/2 Valve per Cyl; 3-4-5-6-8 Cyl.  Commonly referred to as a valve job, this consists of: Removing carbon from valves; inspect springs and valves; Reface valves and machine valve seats with proper multi-angle profile. Vacuum test sealing of each valve on its seat. Pressure test springs; install stem seals as req’d (seals sold separately). Re-assemble valves and springs in the head; and do a final quality control vacuum test. Because OHV heads come in 3, 4, 5, 6, or 8 cylinder size, we price this precision work per valve $22

  Adjust Valve; Heads w/Multi-Valve per Cyl; Shims & Non-Hydraulic. Heads with multiple valves per cyl, and non-hydraulic bucket cam followers, which use shims to adjust the valve clearance, require the cams and followers to be installed, then valve clearance is measured; req’d shim thickness calculated; and a proper shim is installed. All valve clearances are checked a final time for quality control. Shims are sold separately as needed. Priced per valve, $12

LM118  Adjust Valve, each; No Shims, Non Hydraulic. Heads with solid, non-hydraulic bucket cam followers, which use do not use shims to adjust the valve clearance, require the cams, followers, and valves be temporarily installed, then valve clearance is measured; the installed valve height is machined to achieve proper valve clearance. The cam and valves are permanently installed and all valve clearances are checked a final time for quality control. This process saves buying all new follower buckets. Priced per valve, $14

LM120  Set Installed Valve Height; Hydraulic Follower. Heads with hydraulic cam followers require the installed valve height to be within a specific range.  The valves are temporarily installed, valve height is measured; the valve stem-to-seat length is machined to achieve proper installed valve height. Priced per valve, $5

LM126  Clean and Bleed Hydraulic Lifter/ Cam Follower. To ensure a hydraulic lifter/follower does not hold a valve open, causing a misfire, the hydraulic lifter/follower is compressed to bleed out any old oil inside, and then carefully cleaned & inspected. Note: Some engine manufacturers suggest replacing hydraulic lifters/followers. Even after bleeding & cleaning, a lifter/follower may not “pump up”, and require replacement. Re-use of old lifters/followers is at customer’s risk. No warranty. Clean & Bleed is priced per lifter, $7.50

LM128   R&R Rocker Assembly / Clean & Inspect. Most rocker arm assemblies require careful disassembly, vat cleaning & flushing of oil passages, shafts mic’d & checked for wear, shims checked for cracks, rocker tips inspected for wear before being carefully re-assembled. Typically this job requires about an hour, and runs $72  

LM130   Polish Cam / Rocker Shaft. Camshafts and or rocker arm shafts often require micro polishing to restore their bearings’ surface finish. Priced per shaft, $30

LM138   Surface Head, Most 2-3-4 cyl heads. We surface the gasket deck on heads with a precision machine which uses a CBN or diamond insert. This leaves a very smooth/flat finish for maximum head gasket seal and longevity. $85

LM140   Surface Head, Most 5-6 cyl heads. We surface the gasket deck on heads with a precision machine which uses a CBN or diamond insert. This leaves a very smooth/flat finish for maximum head gasket seal and longevity. $95

LM148   Surface Manifold. Often a manifold warps where it seals to the cylinder head. We are able to remachine it flat and smooth again, so it seals properly. $99

LM150   Check & Service Valve Guide. The key to a reliable valve job is having excellent valve guides. We use a special Sunnen bore gauge to precisely measure each guide, to check for both size and geometric wear, such as bell-mouth, barrel, out-of-roundness, and galling. We measure guide installed height; we mic each valve stem and compare to the guide bore to ensure proper clearances. Guides found to be unacceptable are replaced at no add’l labor charge. Priced per guide, $12.50 Guides are sold separately.

LM154   Size Guide OD. Some heads require +0.001” or +0.002” oversize outside diameter guides. Often the new replacement guides are only available +0.005” and  or are too long, or do not have a should to fit the valve stem seal. Reaming the head to accept the larger guide eliminates the possibility of rebuilding the heads again, in the future. Instead, we machine the too large guide to fit the head. Cut it to length, and machine for a stem seal as needed. Prices per guide, $25

LM156   Custom Make Valve Guide. Use LM158 for add’l guide. ADD’L GUIDE. Should a head need an oversize guide, much larger than any available, we keep manganese bronze bar stock on hand, and can custom manufacture a guide to fit. It takes a little extra time to set up the lathe and tooling to make the 1st guide, so it runs $70 plus Mn-Bronze bar stock sold per inch.

LM158   Custom Make Add’l Guide. With the lathe & tooling already set up after making the 1st guide, we discount the price for making any add’l guides of the same size. Priced per guide, $37 plus Mn-Bronze bar stock sold per inch.

LM160 Install Valve Seat. Use LM162 for add’l seat. We remove the old seat, machine a new valve seat / counter bore, then warm the head and chill the seat before pressing the seat into the cyl head. We also mechanically stake the seat in place as a secondary retaining means, for extra reliability. It takes a bit of extra time to set up the mill and tooling, so the 1st seat install runs $75   Seats sold separately.

LM162  Install Add’l Valve Seat of same size. With the mill and tooling already set up from installing the 1st valve seat, we discount the price for installing any add’l valve seats of the same size. Priced per seat, $36     Seats sold separately.

LM164    Repair Spark Plug Threads.  We use a variety of methods to restore the spark plug threads in your cylinder head. Per hole, includes insert or helicoil, $35

LM166    Repair Broken Bolt / Stud.  Use LM168 for EDM. We use a variety of methods to remove/repair a stripped or broken stud or bolt. Per each, includes most common insert or helicoil, $50

LM168    EDM Machine, min.  Whenever a drill bit or easy-out is broken off trying in a part, we’re able to precisely remove it with an EDM Machine that disintegrates the hard metal. $89 minimum m

LM172   Ream Cam Bores. Use LM174 for Volvos. Often when head or block overheats, their cam bearing bores are no longer in alignment; which can cause the cam to seize and break a timing belt, or worse. By align reaming the cam’s bearing bores, the cam will spin freely again. Priced per cam, $100

LM174   Ream Cam Bores on Volvo DOHC w/valve cover.  This engine uses part of the valve cover to hold the cams in place, making it difficult and time consuming to align ream the cam bearing bores. Priced per cam, $150

LM176   Align Bore OHC Cam Brg, 1st brg. Use LM178 for each add’l bearing.  When a cam seizes in a head or block, or if it wears beyond limits, we can align bore the head or block to accept a bearing insert / restore the proper cam to bore clearances. Per each, $145  Inserts sold separately.

LM178   Align bore Add’l Cam Brg. With the machine & tooling already set up from boring the 1st bearing, we can give you a discount on any add’l cam bearing bores of the same. Per each, $60

LM180   Hone/Polish Cam Brg Bores. Often a cam brgs will only slightly try to bind the camshaft; not enough to require reaming  or align boring  - instead we can flex hone them or polish them to restore the correct cam fit. Priced per cam, $65

LM192   VW Air-Cooled Head Valve Job, per head.  This consists of: Vat cleaning / bead blasting the head, springs, retainers, and keepers. Removing carbon from valves; inspect springs and valves; Reface valves and machine valve seats with proper multi-angle profile. Vacuum test sealing of each valve on its seat. Pressure test springs; Re-assemble valves and springs in the head; and do a final quality control vacuum test. Per head, $85

LM194   VW Air-Cooled Head Surface, per head.  To ensure the cylinder seals at the head, without compression leaks, we flycut and restore the cyl seating surfaces of the head to the proper level and finish. Per head, $70
